Governance Policies

Child Protection Policy

Abuse and neglect adversely affect children’s physical, emotional and social well-being and development. At the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (YTAR), we strongly believe that it is our responsibility that children and young people are provided with a safe and secure environment in which to develop and thrive. Our staff undertake training to ensure that they have an understanding
of Safeguarding and Child Protection and they are required to report all concerns of potential child abuse, exploitation or neglect, so that these can be appropriately explored and addressed. In all of our work, we strive to put the best interests of children and young people at the centre of what we do.

Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy

YTAR imposes a high bar of professional transparency, discipline and ethics on all staff, Board of Trustees, Committee members, program participants, scholarship recipients, alumni, partners and any parties that carry out services or enter into partnerships with YTAR.

YTAR’s staff members and Board of Trustees, in particular, will be involved in various engagements, discussions and partnerships with internal and external parties as part of their duties to carry out the mission and objectives of the Foundation. YTAR adopts a zero tolerance approach towards all forms of bribery and corruption. This policy serves to guide the Foundation’s ethical practices as well as internal mechanisms to mitigate and manage actual and/or potential risks and allegations of bribery and/or corruptions within the Foundation.

The Foundation’s Commitment and Public Statement

1. As a Foundation that adheres strongly to the principle of integrity, YTAR is
committed to ensuring that the Foundation’s objective to empower
low-income youth from diverse backgrounds is achieved with honour,
integrity and transparency.

2. The Foundation has received and will continue to receive funds donated from
leaders, individuals and organisations from the public in order to carry out its
objective. To that, the Foundation also holds tax-exempt status and is audited
by the National Audit Department as well as the Inland Revenue Board.
Therefore, the YTAR Community, especially Staff and the Board of Trustees,
has the duty to ensure that YTAR's daily operations are carried out,
documented and reported transparently so that YTAR's objectives are always
achieved in compliance with Malaysian laws, regulations and standards.

3. The Foundation will refrain from practising any and all types of bribery or
corruption in the carrying out of its daily activities. The Foundation adopts a
zero tolerance approach against all types of bribery and corruption and is
prepared to take swift actions against actual allegations of and suspected
instances of bribery and corruption.

4. The YTAR Community is strictly prohibited from paying or receiving
facilitation payments, bribes, gifts or entertainment from other parties that
may affect their ability to act professionally or create a perception that their
ability may be affected.

5. The YTAR Community shall avoid all situations where personal interests
would compromise their professional duty to serve YTAR. With that, the YTAR
Community is also not allowed to accept or offer gifts, services or forms of
entertainment from or to any Related Parties except as permitted in this
policy.

6. The Foundation is also committed to establish appropriate policies and
procedures to preserve the transparency of YTAR's operations and inform the
YTAR Community of their responsibility to maintain the Foundations’
reputation and credibility.
