Introduction

Unlock our youths' potential,
Unleash Malaysia's potential.

At the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation, we seek to uphold YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman's legacy—that Malaysia can only thrive by creating an equitable and diverse society that includes the voices and uplifts the lives of all.

To achieve this, we believe in unlocking the potential of youth in Malaysia, particularly those who come from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds, through higher education access, mentoring, scholarship, and development programmes.

We hope our youth will carry Tunku's unifying legacy

not only by becoming leaders of their lives

but also leaders of their communities and the nation.

Our
History

The Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation was established in 1966 by an Act of Parliament in honour of YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman. The Foundation initially began its work by granting education loans worth RM 20 million to support students as they pursue their studies. In 2006, the loans were replaced with the BTAR Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship: An undergraduate scholarship programme for high potential youth across Malaysia.

Since 2019, the Foundation has revamped its strategy by introducing a 2-year leadership development component to the BTAR scholarship. The Foundation also expanded its programmes by bringing in Closing The Gap, a higher education access mentoring programme for secondary school students, sponsoring youth on vocational programmes and introducing employability upskilling programmes such as FutureReady and Google Gemilang.

Our Vision

We believe in building a thriving, equitable and inclusive Malaysian society where every person is able to achieve the full potential of themselves and the nation.

Our Values

The Foundation upholds the values of Honour, Leadership, Compassion, and Unity, drawing inspiration from the legacy of Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Our Programmes

Our programmes are designed with one central goal in mind: to empower under-represented youths as leaders of themselves, their communities, and the nation. We support them to achieve this goal through 3 key milestones in young adulthood:

Amplifying
Impact

Our mission to shape a better Malaysia is only made possible by the continuous support of our corporate organisations and university partners. Since 2019, YTAR has worked with partners and supporters who share the same vision and mission of empowering Malaysians through their educational journeys.

We are always looking for more partners to expand our impact to more impactful youths. Speak to us about our programmes and explore how you could partner with us.

As a statutory body, the Foundation is committed to providing full transparency as well as exhibiting accountability to the public. Annually, we publish our financial statements that are audited by Jabatan Audit Negara and an updated report of our work's impact.
